ILLNESS POLICY

Any violations of policy will result in immediate termination. Minor symptoms are still symptoms and if your child shows any, regardless how well they might feel, they are NOT allowed to attend. I understand this can be frustrating when a child is running around and playing but there are no exceptions to these rules. If you have answered yes to any of the questions on the daily screening tool, everyone must stay home.

A LEVEL OF JUDGMENT FOR RETURNING TO CARE CAN AND WILL BE USED BY ME IF SOMEONE HAS A VERY MINOR SYMPTOM FROM GROUP B
Ex. Jimmy wakes up on Monday with a slight runny nose, clear with no yellow or green tint. Because he has symptoms, no one in the home may come to daycare. His symptom is very mild and goes away before lunch. It is the only symptom he had, it never got worse and resolved quickly. As long as he as symptom free on Tuesday morning, he will be allowed to enter daycare as long as I am contacted ahead of time with all the details.
This judgement will not be applied to all minor symptoms but it’s important to communicate with me and treat this on a case-by-case basis

GENERAL POLICIES

  • Screening tool must be filled out daily prior to arrival
  • I will greet you outside when you arrive for drop off and pick up times
  • Keep your child home any time you can – a day off from work, off work early, etc. We need to minimize contact as much as possible.
  • Do not stop anywhere between work/home before coming to pick up your child to avoid exposure

POLICY DETAILS

Fever

Any temperature over 37.5 degrees must stay home for a minimum 24 hours after the fever has resolved and without the use of fever-reducing medication (ex. Tylenol, Advil). If temperature is higher than 38 degrees, please follow Government of Manitoba’s guidance regarding testing and isolation.

Coughing, difficulty breathing or sore throat

Must stay home until symptom-free for at least 24 hours

AND

Negative PCR test or 3 at-home rapid tests, taken 24 hours apart (must provide image of tests at the 15 minute mark)

If prescribed medicine, must stay home for a minimum 48 hours of full doses and indicated on a doctors note when it’ safe to return to daycare.

Runny nose and/or sneezing

CLEAR runny nose: so long as symptoms resolve without worsening, without medication and especially without additional symptoms, they may be able to return when 24 hours symptom-free. Please consult with me.

YELLOW/GREEN tinted: Must be symptom-free for a minimum 24 hours without the use of medication.

*sniffling happens sometimes and it will not be deemed a runny nose unless they blow their nose and the sniffling continues. We allow a 20 minute grace period after coming in from the cold

Should their symptoms persist after 3 days, must call health links for recommendation

Sneezing a few times is okay here, provided the child can cover their mouth appropriately. But even with the best covering, sneeze particles can escape. Until sneezing is down to a few times a day without the use of medication, your child(ren) must stay home.

Diarrhea or vomiting

Must be diarrhea and vomit-free for a minimum 24 hours since the time of their last incident, without the use of medication.

AND

Negative PCR test or 3 at-home rapid tests, taken 24 hours apart (must provide image of tests at the 15 minute mark)

Skin rash

Must be symptom-free and rash must be gone for 24 hours

Some exceptions may be made. Please contact me for case-by-case decisions.

IF YOU MUST CONTACT HEALTH LINKS

You must provide the full name (first and last) of the nurse you spoke with and report back to me with their guidance. We must submit this information to our coordinator every time health links must be called.

You will not be allowed back into daycare without this information, even when symptom-free for 24 hours.

OUR RESPONSES WITH MANITOBA PANDEMIC RESPONSE PLAN

LIMITED RISK LEVEL

Enhanced hygiene and cleaning practices still maintained, no additional measures

CAUTION LEVEL

  • Enhanced hygiene and cleaning practices
  • Limiting how close the children play as best we can
  • No hugs or kisses
  • No parks or play structures during daycare (it’s too difficult to ensure children don’t touch their face after touching the structure, etc)

RESTRICTED LEVEL

  • Enhanced hygiene and cleaning practices
  • Distancing play as much as possible
  • Second table set up for meals to ensure distancing
  • No hugs or kisses
  • No parks or play structures during daycare (it’s too difficult to ensure children don’t touch their face after touching the structure, etc)
  • Possible: mandated masks and/or face shields

CRITICAL LEVEL

  • It is possible at this level that the province may force closure of all non-essential businesses again. We will need to determine next steps if we get to that point, based on Manitoba Public Health directives.
  • May impose mask mandate (and or face shields)
  • Children will have designated toys for the day, no changing places in the home or switching toys. We would try to be outside as much as possible if we have to get to this point so they can move around but it would be incredibly strict and regulated indoors.
  • School age children will be required to wear their masks between school closure and the remainder of the day at daycare to reduce spread from potential contacts at school.

SCENARIO BASED COVID GUIDELINES

SCENARIO 1: I (PATTI), DAMIR OR INES TEST POSITIVE

If your child(ren) remain asymptomatic, they are eligible to come back to daycare after 10 days (see closure notice above).
If your child(ren) develop symptoms, they must be tested.
Proof of negative PCR or three rapid antigen tests taken 24 hours apart

In the event you have a second unvaccinated child, they must isolate for 10 days AFTER the positive child’s isolation ends, for a total of 20 days. If you have a second child, they both must stay home until everyone’s isolation periods are complete and must remain asymptomatic.

Proof of negative PCR or three rapid antigen tests taken 24 hours apart
(picture of each RAT must be sent at the 15 minute testing mark as the proof of negative)
