Some wedding stories are straightforward. Couple gets engaged, couple plans wedding, wedding happens. Tessa and Sylvain’s story was not that, and their stationery suite wasn’t either.
Like so many couples who were planning weddings in 2020 and 2021, Tessa and Sylvain ran into wall after wall. Restrictions. Postponements. They made a decision that a lot of couples made during that time: they eloped. Just the two of them, a ceremony, and a photographer. They still wanted the big celebration with their family and friends, but they weren’t waiting any longer to be married. When restrictions finally lifted and the reception planning was back on, they came to us for their invitation suite.
Because Tessa and Sylvain had already been married, they already had wedding photos. Real ones. Theirs. And for the first, and so far only time in my career as a stationery designer, I was able to do something I’d never done before: incorporate a couple’s actual wedding photography directly into their invitation suite. Real photographs from their real wedding day, printed as part of the paper goods their guests would hold in their hands. That doesn’t happen. The timeline of a wedding simply doesn’t allow for it. Stationery goes out months before the wedding date, which means photography doesn’t exist yet. Tessa and Sylvain’s situation made the impossible possible, and we took full advantage of it.
Every suite I design has a story behind it. This one has a story that still stands alone.
